The IoTask team is composed of well-known pioneers of innovation; the term IoT was in fact coined in the research lab of one of our founders. We initiated and directed many of the largest investments, implementations, and standards developments efforts in IoT. We understand the pivotal decisions in IoT and connected systems including the network and associated architecture, and propagating through the entire stack to the right choices on sequencing of applications, services and financing structures to offer an orderly, holistic roll-out that is a critical to accelerate IoT and to extract value for public or private entities.

IoTask’s exceptional senior leadership team combines over half a century of world-renowned leadership in IoT. The team aims to solve client problems holistically through independent analysis and execution. In particular, they combine world-leading technical know-how in end-to-end IoT with deep experiences in the analytical, managerial, financial and technology aspects of IoT. These experiences are both global and industry diverse with applications in multiple geographies and industries including but not restricted to North America, Europe, Asia and Consumer-Retail, Government.The IoTask team has decades of experience in going from the vision to the implementation of businesses around the Internet and related Innovation of Things (IoT). We were among the original pioneers of IoT with special focus on the industry verticals of finance, retail and manufacturing as well as the government. The core competence of the IoTask lies exactly in the holistic understanding and providing end-to-end holistic planning and solutions to all the challenges that the areas present. IoTask offers (a) a complete methodological guide at the policy or business-planning stage addressing all the key issues (strategic, technical, organizational) that innovation of things ventures require (b) an integrated tool-set of advisory services for the design, the deployment & the management of an innovation business.

Prof. Sanjay Sarma, Managing Director, IoTask LLC

Sanjay Sarma is the Fred Fort Flowers (1941) and Daniel Fort Flowers (1941) Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT and the VP of Open learning. He co-founded the Auto-ID Center at MIT, which is considered to be the origin of the Internet of Things industry and where he developed many of the key technologies behind the EPC suite of RFID standards used worldwide. He was also the founder and CTO of OATSystems, which was acquired by Checkpoint Systems (NYSE: CKP) in 2008. He serves on the boards and advisory boards of GS1, EPCglobal and several startup companies including Senaya, ESSESS, TraceLink, Top Flight Technologies and IoTask. In all his endeavors, Professor Sarma has been at the forefront of technologies now known as the Internet of Things: RFID is a fore-runner to IoT, Senaya enables massive asset tracking, ESSESS focuses on infrared imaging and smart cities, TraceLink enables pharmaceutical applications, and MITx, which reports to Professor Sarma at MIT, delivers revolutionary Massive Open Online Courses (Courses) to millions of students around the world straight from the cloud. Over the years, Professor Sarma has been involved in other sectors as well: health care, energy (through his startups and work experience), automotive technologies, government (he is a designer of the Indian UID system) and financial technology.

Dr. Sarma received his Bachelors from the Indian Institute of Technology, his Masters from Carnegie Mellon University and his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. Sarma also worked at Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Aberdeen, UK, and at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories in Berkeley, California. He has authored over 75 academic papers in Internet of Things, computational geometry, sensing, RFID, automation and CAD, and is the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and research including the MacVicar Fellowship, the Business Week eBiz Award and Information Week’s Innovators and Influencers Award. He advises several national governments and global companies.

Dr. Gitanjali Swamy, Managing Partner, IoTask

Gitanjali Swamy is currently a Managing Partner at IoTask, an “Innovation of Things” (IoT) company. She is an experienced finance and technology investment professional, innovator and entrepreneur. Dr. Swamy has founded, built and served as a board director in successful entrepreneurial or intra-preneurial enterprises with over a dozen institutional fundraisings and acquisitions under her tenure. She has also held investment and consultant professional roles in global market leaders such as The Carlyle Group and Booz Allen & Hamilton. She currently serves as Founder/Advisory Board Member of the U.C. Berkeley Women in Technology Center, Director of Special Projects at the Private Capital Research Institute at Harvard Business School and a Board Member of The National Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Dr. Swamy is also a Board Director or Advisor to half a dozen entrepreneurial ventures.

Previously, Dr. Swamy was an investment professional with The Carlyle Group. Prior to Carlyle, she consulted with Matrix Partners, advising on investment strategy and portfolio incubation. Dr. Swamy has worked in management consulting at Booz Allen and Hamilton advising financial and technology clients on strategy, innovation and new business creation efforts. She has helped clients start and transition groundbreaking global innovative public and private sector entities such as MIT’s Opencourseware, the Auto-ID Consortium and more recently the MIT Engine investment vehicle. Dr. Swamy has held product and line-management roles at companies like Mentor Graphics, The Mathworks and held senior management positions, including Chairman & CEO, while she led the companies from inception through fundraising, team recruitment to market development of cross-border enterprises and to acquisitions.
Dr. Swamy received her B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from the IIT Kanpur winning several Academic Proficiency Prizes, her Ph.D. in EECS from U.C. Berkeley, where she was an NSF Fellow and President of WICSE, and her MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was the CFO of the student association. She has nearly 25 publications patents in the fields of data, algorithms, technology and policy.

Mr. Athanasios (Thanos) Yamas, Managing Director, IoTask LLC

Mr.Yamas is also Managing Director at IoTask LLC. Mr. Yamas was the founder and board member of Metis consulting group, established in 2000, with presence in Spain, Belgium, Greece & Lithuania (since 2014 he exit Metis Greece & serves the rest of the companies as non-exec of their boards). From 1998 to 2014 he has set up and coordinated more than 30 complex information & communication technologies (ICTs) projects within the European Commission initiatives programs, in the areas of ▪ security & crisis management ▪ e/m-government, ▪ healthcare services ▪ smart buildings & cities ▪ social sector ▪ sustainable energy ▪ technology-enhanced learning ▪ telecom & IT ▪ travel & transport. etc. These include both private sector and public sector clients. Notable private sector clients include: TOYOTA Europe (Belgium), FIAT (Italy), IKEA (Sweden), Deloitte (Greece, Portugal, UK), Athens International Airport (Greece), Cruers Del Port de Barcelona SA (Spain), UniCredit (Italy), etc. as well as a number of s/w & web-based start-ups. Notable public sector client include the European Commission, the Scottish Government, the Ministry of Trade & Industry (UK), the Ministry of Finance (Greece), the Ministry of Tourism (Spain, Portugal, Greece), the Ministry of Citizen Protection (Greece) etc. In parallel, from 2003 he has helped found, invested in, or served on the Boards of nearly a dozen entrepreneurial ventures in Europe & USA, most of which were successfully acquired or continue to be in business in areas like in big data analytics, e-business, enterprise mobility, mobile marketing, video streaming technologies etc.

Mr. Yamas received his Master’s Degree in Science & Technology Policy, University of Sussex, Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), UK and his Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece.
